Updates and Homework
Reminder
By Tuesday, 10/22/13 I expect to see the following:
10 Source Write-up blog posts that begin with a proper MLA source citation and include one paragraph of summary and one paragraph of reflection.
10 self-comments (a comment on each source write-up), vetting the authors and anyone else named (as discussed in class)
5 response posts: posted directly on your peers' blogs (NOT ON YOUR OWN BLOG)
Have read the Binghamton Writes essay "Mission Accomplished" and be prepared for class discussion.

Homework for 10/17/13
Reminder: Unless I state otherwise, all assignments for this section should be posted to your blog.
Homework:
1. Read "Rogerian Rhetoric" (found on Blackboard) and post a summary/response.
2. Write Ups: Locate and read 8 sources for your Op-Ed topic and write a separate post for each source:
Begin a proper MLA citation of the source and then write one paragraph summarizing the source and one paragraph offering your review (was it helpful? would this make a good source? does it respond to any of your other sources?)
3. Locate TWO peer blogs and read/respond to two source Write-Ups (one on each of the chosen blogs).Write at least two full paragraphs. Are you writing on the same topic? Offer advice or other helpful sources. Do you have questions about the topic or the source? If so, ask them.
4. Post your topic proposal. Take a look at the template on TSIS, page 9. Either use this template directly, or do your own thing (as long as it covers everything the template covers).

Welcome to the Swamp-Room
Welcome to the Swamp-Room. Here, deep in the bowels of the "Science 2" building, we study the concept of "Coming to Voice." There's no better place to find one's voice than in a swamp. After all, Kermit the Frog sang his cinematic debut in a swamp... and if you know a better lily-pad-to-riches Coming to Voice story, then perhaps you should be teaching a writing course of your own.
But as I was saying, the sealed windows and general basementy dankness create an environment that is rather ideal for growing thoughts and theses. We assume, of course, that thoughts and theses have the same growth requirements as your average Spanish Moss (or frog Muppet).
As cold weather advances, the heat portion of our swamp room will subside but the humid cave-stank may linger. I'm sure there's a metaphor there about the writing process, but honestly my mind went off on a tangent as I fantasized about a temperature drop.
But I digress. Here we are, entering the Op-Ed section of our class and what better format to opine than the old, trusty blog.
To the right you will find a list of the class blogs. this will come in handy as you look for intriguing ideas to respond to. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to float around and try to find some banjo-playing puppets.
